New apalert apnea, respiratory, or anesthesia monitor,

APALERT Respiratory Monitor - FINALLY!!! A dealer in the US!! This monitor is the very best respiratory monitor that I have found and I have been in the business for over 35 years. Yes, I am a practicing Veterinarian. I own and manage two AAHA hospitals and have a total of 11 anesthesia machines between the two hospitals. These anesthesia machines are sophistocated human machines with all kinds of built-in monitors, including Pulse Ox, Capnographs, NIBP, and ECG. On every one of my eleven machines I have always had an Apalert monitor. Of all the monitors that I have had over the years, the Apalert monitor has saved more lives than all the other ones put together! I would NEVER practice without them. Notice on the fourth photo (one of my eleven machines) that there is an Apalert monitor on the top shelf of the unit! (This anesthesia machine is NOT included in the sale!!)
The sensor for this monitor is placed between the Endotracheal tube and the anesthesia delivery circuit. It will work with either a circle (rebreathing system) or a Bain's type circuit (non-rebreathing system). The sensor will detect each breath that the patient takes. There is a counting circuit that starts at zero and counts upwards to show you how many seconds go by before the next breath. The apnea alarm can be set for 10, 20, 30, 40, or 60 seconds and the alarm will get louder and louder until you either re-set the monitor or the patient takes a breath. The sensor's sensitivity can be adjusted to even let you know if the patient's tidal volume decreases during a procedure. As all of you know, if a patient is going to have a problem under anesthesia, almost always, the first thing that happens is that the respiratory rate decreases or the patient stops breathing altogether. This usually happens well before you will see ECG signs, or even Pulse Ox changes.
This unit is battery operated and has an AC adapter/charger included. If you take a patient off of your anesthesia machine and place that patient in a recovery cage with the endotracheal tube still in place - you can bring the Apalert monitor over to the recovery cage and still monitor the patient's breathing! The alarm is loud enough that you can be immediately "notified" if there are any problems.
There have been a few Apalert "knock offs" over the years, all of which have been far inferior in design and reliability to this unit. This unit is made in Australia and has been difficult to get in the USA - up until now! Parts have also been difficult to get - up until now! I am now an official dealer for Apalerts in the USA. There will no longer be a shortage of units or parts. Best of all, this unit has a full one year warranty.
