The HV40 x EB x 36 exit device is a Hurricane Rated (listed in Florida for use on "Ceco" hurricane rated doors...if you are NOT in Florida this will not affect your installation requirements and the unit can be used on ANY DOOR) battery powered alarmed exit device for Hurricane rated doors to 40" wide. (see the HV40 x EB x 48 for doors over 40" wide)
Many of the big retailers use this door hardware for loss prevention, including The Home Depot, Target Stores and Lowes for a few,use this device on their exit doors.
You can use the same device to protect your exit doors from merchandise theft from the public or your own "trusted" employees.
If an unauthorized person attempts to exit through the door a VERY LOUD alarm will sound and you will be notified even in a noisy environment. You WILL know that someone has opened a protected door. To silence the alarm someone with a control key must go to the door to reset the alarm. This action puts you in control of your exit doors and you can insure that the door is closed, locked and re-armed.
The device mounts to your door using a steel mounting plate to which the device is attached. The base plate is positioned by the use of a physical plastic template that does not allow for error. The only way you can goof this one up is by not using the template.
Once the base plate is attached to the door the device interlocks into it, then fastens solidly with two heavy duty machine screws. One person can handle the installation easily. All you do is level it up, mark the holes for the end bracket on the hinge side, drill the pilot holes and attach the end bracket.
Plug in the included 9 volt battery and replace the end cap and you are ready to arm the unit. Voila', you are protected!
If your existing door has a 2-1/8" hole in it for a regular keyed lock, this unit can be mounted to cover the hole. ( You must remove any other locks from this door to meet the Life Safety and building code requirements.) You still need to use an "O3P" x cylinder-outside trim to cover the hole. You will also need an edge filler # 161LF to fill the rectangular latch hole in the edge of your door. These filler plates are inexpensive. Look them up in our store.
The unit is armed by turning the key in the main control cylinder.
This unit can be "dogged" open (latch held back) so your door can be used in a push and pull condition when you are unloading a truck and bringing merchandise in through this door.
The arming delay feature also lets you leave by this door by recycling (turning it off and then back on) the alarm with the key. You now have 15 seconds to go out the door, close and latch it behind you and listen for the three beeps...now it is locked and armed and you can go home with peace of mind.
If you wish to use this door for access back into the building space you will have to install an optional exterior trim with a key cylinder. Please look at the following optional trims available for outside entrance:
