Scaffoldmart has now updated our caster to a new design. Our caster wheel has a 1 3/8th" outer diameter stem and a total length of 4-inchs. It has a double safety margin built into the load rating. Our wheel is Heavy Duty, load tested to handle 500 lbs with a 16-to-1 safety margin. Actual collapse was 8,100 lbs. It bent out of spec. (See our scaffolding load test results here.) We are one of the few if not the only company to actually publish our third party test results of our products. Stork Labs is a world wide testing lab.
The scaffold caster wheel is an 8" cast-iron wheel with a rubber overlay that is 2 inches wide and over an inch of rubber covering the iron caster wheel. There are ball bearings in the pivot mechanism to handle high loading. Double zerk grease fittings. Locking mechanism is different from most others. One way to break the lock that typically happens is stand on it to lock it and it is forced past it's intended design stop point. This is due to the entire body weight being applied. Our design locks in the full down position so you cannot bend the tab and destroy the locking mechanism. Locked it's absolutely rock solid. The locked position prevents wheel pivot and locks to prevent the scaffold caster wheel from rolling. Upper steel body is galvanized. The center of the hole location on stem is 2.5 inches from the base which should fit most brands of scaffold that are 1.69 in OD or 1.625 in OD. Does not fit 1.5 in OD. You will need a 1.25 in stemmed wheel which we also stock.
