This Buck-Boost Regulator provides a fixed output of 13.8v from your varying battery input voltage of 8 to 36 volts!!
With just moderate use, a 12v (nominal) lead acid battery quite soon drops below 12.4 volts or so if there is no charging source attached.
There is still useable energy available, but mobile radios can require a minimum operating voltage of around 12.6v or more.
At lower battery voltages your connected mobile radio may reduce output power, or your transmitted output become distorted.
This Regulator will elevate the low battery voltage to the required or expected 13.8v, allowing full power operation for longer.
Please note the unit does not create energy, it takes more current from the battery and converts this to the required higher voltage.
Of course, if your vehicle has a 24v supply, the Regulator will drop the voltage to allow you to run your 12v Radio.
