This is a vintage Hedman Company F & E Check Protector. It says it is a Royal Premier Model. The protector is a manual crank. There are 8 columns - you punch in the amount in dollar and cents that you want to have imprinted on the check you're writing - pull the handle forward and your check is imprinted with "The sum of $0 and 00 cts". There is a key for locking it down so no-one else can imprint checks. It's in good condition. I'm not sure how old this is, it's been in our family since my grandmother had a retail store! It is VERY heavy built.
