Blanchard high power vertical surface grinder, 1973

Blanchard High Power Vertical Surface Grinder
Model 20HD-36, Serial Number: 14059
Year model according to serial number is 1973
We got this baby back in the mid 90s. Used machinery was moving good, and the boss decided, since it was a desirable machine, to rebuild it. This is what we did to the machine back then, according to one of our labor guys who still works for us.
* We cleaned the machine very, very good and repainted it.
* We purchased and installed new spindle bearings.
* We purchased and installed a new wheel holder....see the pics
* We took off the 100 HP motor and had it serviced by a local big motor shop.
* It LOOKS like we rewired the main electrical cabinent, because it looks really good....see the pics
Now, this is where the story gets interesting. After we did this, our employee who did the work tried to run it. This 100 HP motor takes 117 amps at 460 Volts, 3 phase. We only have about 100 amps coming into the building. The story is it would run, but start-up was SLOOWWW, and it would trip breakers, and the building transformer would glow red and small children would cry. All of this happened in the mid 90s. We have tried to get in touch with this former employee, but we just can't find him.
Some Information: (LOOK at THE PICS)
* According to the model number this is a dry base machine. In other words, the coolant would run out into a seperate chip/coolant tank and be filtered and pumped back to the machine. WE DO NOT HAVE THIS TANK OR PAN. Also, I've been told that sometimes these machines discharged the coolant into a concrete "creek" in the floor and would go to a sump in the floor to be collected from several machines and piped back to the machines.
* I am told the "H" in the model number means "high horsepower" and the "D" in the model number means "dry base".
* Segmented grinding wheel holder looks NEW !!!. We could have replaced this in the mid 90s when we started the rebuild or it could have been replaced by the original owner prior to us getting the machine. Nevertheless, it looks as if segments have NEVER been bolted into this holder. It is about 20" diameter. Look at the pics of this grinding wheel holder.
* This machine has a 100 HP motor for the grinding wheel spindle, 117 amps....look at pic of motor tag
* 36" magnetic chuck.....I don't know how to tell if chuck life is good....I don't know if chuck magnetics work.
* I don't know how to spec out machine, CALL ME IF YOU WANT ME TO READ SOME DIALS OR MEASURE SOMETHING.
* I do not have any books, manuals or electrical drawings for this machine. I'll bet our original employee had them, but I NO LONGER HAVE THEM.
