Linear permenant magnet motor (C234)

Linear Permenant Magnet Motor (C234)
This is a device used to move the read/write heads into position on a hard drive.
It's from H.P. so you know it's well made. This is a piece with close tolerences to be sure.
Another use for this device can surely be had for those who are "thinkers" and "tinkerers".
I have included the following for you due to the fact
I can not find anything about this unit online.
Perhaps you are a better sluth than I.
This is from the letter which accompanied the device:
Enclosed you will find one linear permenant magnet motor (A La Voice Coil) from H.P. These are manufactured and designed in Boise and are used in a variety of hard disk drives to position the heads. Since the head assembly is light weight and must be moved at high speeds, the coil has been optimized for a set of dynamics quite different from those of the laser scanner microscope. This situation is best remedied by rewinding the coil with finer wire (use copper wire)
Current Rating: 4-5 Amp. Average and 8-10 Amp. Peak
Magnetic Flux in gap: 6.8 to 6.9 Kilo Gauss
Output Voltage/Velocity: 57mv second/inch
The top and bottom plates can be removed as desired along with the bearing guide rails, but:DO NOT REMOVE the front and/or back plates of the magnet structure. These act as "Keepers" and if removed the alnico magnets used in this device will instantly and spontaneously demagnetize!
