In a jaded old red brick building off the beaten path in Maine, the Screaming Moose found life as a friendly and comfortable stop for locals and travelers. Known best by their steaks and potatoes, and home brewed beer, the small eatery and lodge was a welcome getaway from the harsh reality of early 19th century life.
Legend has it that two brothers, recently having journeyed across the Atlantic, acquired the old building from a local land owner and set to build their eatery. Having made the deal site unseen due to an overly harsh Maine winter, the brothers were surprised to find a behemoth of a moose had taken shelter in the structure. When they attempted to remove the beast, it put up such a horrible fight, wailing and screaming and snarling, that by the time they scared it out, it had all but destroyed the old interior.
