The Welsummer hen lays beautiful, dark and deep reddish brown eggs almost a terrra cotta color with "paint splatters" on them. I have never seen a egg like a Welsummer egg. Very unique and unusual color like no other. We got this breed because my husband's late great grandmother had this breed when he was a kid, and I must say I have enjoyed them! They originated from Holland and is said that a farmer named them from a village in Welsum. The breed was admitted to the APA in 1991. They have a simgle comb and clean legs. The rooster weighs about 7lbs and his girls are about 6lbs. Housed seperately, rooster with his own ladies, No cross breeding here. Very sweet birds, non agressive and such pretty feather colorings.
