PROTRONICS' Trio SafeTcheck Pro Logger II is the fastest, simplest and most thorough Portable Appliance Tester available. Recording of test results is required by law. However, we have made it very easy. Time consuming hand-writing of results in a logbook is eliminated by an integrated data logger. PROTRONICS' SafeTcheck Pro Logger II stores 500 records and gives you complete control over how and what is recorded. Each appliance's description & identification number is recorded alongside its test results. The actual time & date and the measured values are automatically stored with each test record. Then whenever convenient, you simply download the data to your computer.
No purchase of Software is necessary. This tester comes complete with everything necessary for you to access your logged data using your existing spreadsheet program. The advantages of this computer based system of logging the test result data are apparent: The versatility of your spreadsheet program can be used 1) to print multiple copies of the results and 2) to categorise and sort the multiple tests, allowing the complete test history of individual appliances to be compiled. The data logger can be disabled if you prefer to prefer to use a handwritten logbook.
Optional Extras: Both Barcode Scanner & Keyboard which must be purchased separately from PROTRONICS are not included here. Bonus offer: If you require a USB keyboard, please ask for a free one with tester purchase. Otherwise use your own USB keyboard. By using both Keyboard & Scanner, logging your test results is child s play it saves even more time. PROTRONICS also supplies labels with barcoded appliance identification numbers which you permanently attached to each appliance. Barcode scanning saves much cumulative time (and money) compared with keyboard entry. We have included with this tester a FREE Stainless Steel Mesh Cloak/Blanket worth over $240 alone. However, we also have available an optional 30% larger Stainless Steel Mesh Cloak/Blanket for $121 extra. PROTRONICS also supplies test tags pre-printed with barcoded tag numbers if required. of PROTRONICS' Trio SafeTcheck Pro Logger II:-
* Very User Friendly: -Very simple to learn to use. On-screen prompting.
* Robust case: with pressure relief valve & carry handle. Sealed from dust & moisture. Has room for accessories inside. (Unique to SafeTcheck)
* Electrical Continuity (Appliance ON) Test: warns if the appliance is not switched on . Some brands of tester will perform the test even if the appliance is not switched on & then, indicate a pass without actually testing the appliance properly!
* Integrated RCD Test: RCD (ELCB) trip time tester* included. Trip time display in milliseconds.
* Combined RCD Trip Time & Lead Test: Each RCD is checked as an Extension Lead (includes polarity of Active & Neutral) at the same time as the RCD trip time test. This saves you time. (Unique to SafeTcheck).
* Isolation Transformer: (Integrated)- for portable RCD (ELCB, Safety Switch) testing - to ensure any other RCD in the circuit is not tripped. (Unique to SafeTcheck) (Other brands of RCD Testers require separate transformer for $275 extra!)
* Test Duration: less than 6 seconds: - Quickest in its class of testers
* Mesh Stainless Steel Cloak/Blanket: (for wrapping the appliance) Free! Worth over $250! (Unique to SafeTcheck)
* Warns if extension lead is Not Uncoiled: (Unique to SafeTcheck)
* CheckCONNECT warns if appliance is not wrapped with Cloak/Blanket: - During Class 2 Insulation Resistance tests the unique CheckConnect feature ensures the presence of a fault current return path. (Unique to SafeTcheck) This check is critical, since if no return path is provided (e.g. you forget to connect the alligator clip lead to the double insulated appliance) the appliance cannot be properly tested. In such faulty connection situations other testers will indicate a pass anyway!
* On Board Data Logging Memory: - Test results (incl. measured values and other test data) is stored (logged) in a very simple format in the PAT's memory for later uploading to a computer. - Eliminates need for costly software. (Use any computer spreadsheet!) Can be used with regular computer keyboard. (Note: data cannot be downloaded from computer to tester)
* Barcode scanner connection: (scanner not included- Optional Extra ) Saves typing data, which saves time.
* Audible indicator: beeps on Pass/Fail
* Test Fail Manual reset: Does not default to main menu. Gives more time to record a fail result.
* Safety Shutdown: Trips power to the PAT (at 6mA leakage) - protects user from electric shock during Leakage current (run) tests. Similar to an RCD function. (Unique to SafeTcheck)
* Dual test plugs: eliminates need for Adaptor (IEC to Australian Plug) for extension lead test. (Unique to SafeTcheck)
* Extra Test functions: 250V EPOD, Stand-alone Earth only test, Fixed RCD 10 & 30mA, Piezo Run Test etc.
* Tests Mains power outlet:- Your power point is checked for faulty Earth connection, Active/Neutral Polarity and incorrect mains voltage (mains fluctuations affect tester accuracy) (Unique to SafeTcheck)
* Separate Socket for Current Leakage (Run/Live Powered) tests: (Unique to SafeTcheck)- added user Safety reasons:-
1. A conscious decision to choose the Live Socket, minimises risk of accidentally starting a live test from the Insulation Test (non live) Socket.
2. Run/Live test socket has hard-wired earth. (Otherwise, if same test socket (with a switched earth) is used for both Insulation and Leakage tests, the switched earth may fail - potential user danger during Live/Run tests.)
3. Test aborts if 6mA of leakage current is detected.

However, when the AS/NZS 3760:2003 standard says that, insulation resistance (IR) must be tested, it does not exclude the compliance of tests performed by PATs without the above mentioned leakage current test capability. However, if an insulation resistance measurement is made impossible by the electrical design of the appliance (DUT), then a substitute leakage current measurement (or "Run/Live/Power up test") is the only other way of testing the insulation condition. In other words, your test still complies with the standard if you perform either of these tests. Therefore, for appliances which do not require a "Leakage Current test (or "Run/Live/Power up test"), your old obsolete tester may suffice. However, increasingly manufacturers are designing appliances with membrane switches, contactors, remote controls and soft start electronics that cannot be properly tested unless they are powered up and actually running during the test. This PROTRONICS tester can perform this "Leakage Current test (or "Run/Live test") which enables the testing of most 240V AC appliances to comply with AS/NZS 3760:2003.
What about the other requirements of AS/NZS 3760:2003? Other requirements in the AS/NZS 3760:2003 relate to MIMS Heating Element appliances and RCD Operating Time testing. In this listing, our Item: SAFETCHECK model can correctly perform such tests on ALL these devices (unlike most other PATs). This new tester is one of the most sophisticated PATs on the Australian market.
What if I need to test appliances that use more than 10 Amps? The NON power up, (or non run test) -properly called Insulation Resistance Test (IR)- function on this tester will successfully test appliances irrespective of how high their load current ratings are, i.e. even appliances over 10 Amps. However, the leakage current ( power up or run ) test function on this tester is limited to 10 Amps load. Similarly, regular 240V AC power outlets (that you power the PAT from) are also rated at a maximum of 10 Amps. This tester's leakage current ( power up or run ) test is protected by a fuse. We also have available Appliance Testers (PATs) with 20 AMP leakage current test capability for $2,360.
Does this include recording software? This SafeTcheck tester does include downloader software which simply facilitates the tester "talking" to your computer. It is not a database type recording software. You can switch off its data logging (memory) feature if you want to use manual logbook recording instead. This tester has been designed for users who do not require complicated software. This SafeTcheck tester will log or record test results in its on-board memory for downloading later to a computer via very simple ".csv" format. ".Csv" format can be opened by any cheap office program which incorporates a spreadsheet (e.g. . Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Works or "Open Office" which is free). Even "Notepad" reads it, although not recommended. You do not need to use an expensive database style of complicated software.
What if I do not have a Spreadsheet on my computer? Please click this download link to obtain a very good quality FREE one that we have been using successfully for many years.
Do you sell software for recording test results? Trio "Inspect" software (available for $220) is not an automatic logging/recording type software and is NOT designed for nor recommended for this SafeTcheck tester. Although it is a database type of software, it allows only manual entry and recording of test results. In order to use this software, you must have a computer on site during testing to enable simultaneous manual entry of test data. This software is ideal for using along side our other appliance testers which do not have data logging memory on-board. Put simply, it is for use in place of a hand written log book. It can be used only when not using a tester's data logging memory. No software purchase whatsoever is required with this SafeTcheck tester. However, The SafeTcheck Pro Logger II Downloader Software v 2.6 or greater, is now compatible with SimplyPats Portable Appliance Tester Testing Software (Click here) SimplyPats allows you to easily download Test Data from the SafeTcheck Pro Logger II. This data can then be checked, processed, validated and saved as a file on your PC - you can even generate an invoice using data entered into the SafeTcheck Pro Logger II at time of testing.
Together with the SafeTcheck Pro Logger II Portable Appliance Tester, SimplyPats makes electrical appliance testing and the management of the gathered data a breeze. See for yourself and download the demo.
I don't use computers. So why purchase the SAFETCHECK data logging tester? It records measured values while data logging. It comes with unique . It includes an integrated RCD trip time tester (includes an isolation transformer - which costs $270 extra with other PAT models.) You can even select the correct test threshold for Mineral Insulated Metal Sheath (MIMS) Heating Element appliances such as kitchen kettles. The average PAT cannot test for this MIMS threshold! Suggested reasons for each test failure are displayed - extremely handy for non technically minded users. SafeTcheck's built in shut down safety switch ensures that the user is given even greater safety. This is very important since Test & Tagging personal are continually at greater risk of electric shocks from faulty appliances under test. The user's first accident in this way may be his last. Yet other manufacturers have not addressed this user safety issue! The Carry Case which has room for accessories inside, is airtight. Moisture and dust cannot enter because of the rubber sealing ring around the circumference of the lid. If you like I could phone you to explain more pros and cons. Ph 02 6742 2110. After Hours is ok. Overall the SafeTcheck Pro Logger II PAT tester is extremely user friendly. Last but not least, the friendly and prompt support that we can access for you from the Australian manufacturer is equal to the best from any that I have ever seen!
Can I upgrade later to Record Data, Scan and Print Tags/labels - when I can afford it?
The selectable feature to record test results (called data logging ) is a free bonus with each of our Trio SafeTcheck Pro Logger II testers. The Barcode Scanner can be added later to SafeTcheck for $297. But the option for the SafeTcheck to interface with a tag/label printer will never be available. (Note: Printing of test tags/labels via an on-site PDA or Laptop and/or using an independent printer, is not being discussed here). The many owners of SafeTchecks consider that the small amount of time saved. by automatically printing tags compared with the extra $1,000s of cost for a system with a tag printer, is not worth it. Anyway, the time to attach the tag to each appliance is still the same whether it is pre-printed or hand written. This is their reasoning: PROTRONICS can have your name, business name, phone number, certificate number and tag number permanently custom printed on your hand written tags at no extra cost. Then if you simply hand write the test date and appliance number on each test tag/label, this does not take much more time than it does for an automatic tag printer to print a label anyway. The Trio SafeTcheck is for users who don't need the comprehensive asset management software like WinPATS ($1,300), which is an optional extra for our TnT+M tester ($2,600). The Trio SafeTcheck is so quick and simple to use that you may never need a tag/label printer. Think of this: Most tag printing equipment options are packaged with the cooperation of asset management software. The time efficiency gains when using a stand-alone tag printer is wasted when used without such software. For those who can afford all these options, our excellent TnT+ tester ($1,860), can be later upgraded to a Test n Print+M Pack (This upgrade for $6,000 extra includes Data Logging Memory, WinPATS MX Software, Custom Configured Tag Printer, Keypad Interface, Barcode Scanner, RCD Isolation Transformer, Carry Case & Trolley).
Where do I start if I really do want a Tag Printer? Our Trio SafeTcheck Pro Logger II cannot be supplied with a tag/label printer option. Do you want a printer to automatically print the tag for each test using data on the Appliance tester (PAT)? Or do you want to separately enter all the data directly onto an on-site Pocket PC or Laptop which is connected to the printer before each tag is printed? Are the tags from tag printers really durable enough for your location? Phone me with more information about your needs so I can better answer your question. Ph 02 6742 2110.
Will a Barcode Scanner recognise an appliance by its Barcode? No, A barcode scanner is simply a data input device. (excluding scanners that have their own on-board memory) A computer keyboard is also a data input device. At a supermarket, the checkout barcode scanner reads the barcode as a number, then the computer/cash register recognises that item number and displays the product to which that number belongs. Keyboards and barcode scanners do not process information other than convert data into a form that a computer can work with. It is the computer and its computer program that are what can recognise an item. Our Barcode scanners do not recognise appliances on their own.
Does the Appliance Tester recognise an appliance by its Barcode? Some do and some don't. Our SafeTcheck tester does not recognise an appliance from its barcode - or its appliance number typed in via keyboard. It simply records, remembers and stores all the information (data) that you scan or type in. Whereas our TnT...M appliance testers can recognise an individual appliance from its barcode. Testers which do have item recognition capability, usually cost $1,000s more than those testers which don't.
Why do Appliance Testers which recognise an appliance by its Barcode cost so much? One main reason for the extra cost is that the computer software required to make it possible is very expensive to develop. They are a complete database type of software with comprehensive asset management functions. Often a full version of these software programs cost more than $1,300. The extra cost of this feature is the main consideration for users when deciding which tester to purchase. Although most people who test & tag prefer to have an appliance tester which can recognise appliance numbers, most will settle for our more affordable SafeTcheck Pro Logger II. It simply stores the data for use with a very common and versatile computer program called a Spreadsheet which is already on your computer.
Can the 500V Insulation Resistance Test damage appliances with electronic circuit boards? Although I have heard of rare cases of potential issues with this 500V DC IR (Insulation Resistance) Test, there are a number of reasons why this is not a concern: 1) Primary circuits of all DUTs (Devices Under Test or Appliances) operate with only with AC voltage. So when the DC voltage is applied to the AC circuit of the DUT, there is usually no apparent voltage detected by the circuit at all. If there is no voltage, there is no damage possible. You can demonstrate this by the near zero display on an AC volt meter when connected to a DC supply. 2) In The Australian/NZ standard (Section B3) says Insulation resistance tests shall be performed with the the live supply conductors joined together . And both the live supply conductors (Active/Line and Neutral) connected together electrically . While they are joined together there is no voltage difference (potential) what-so-ever between the live supply conductors of the DUT. It follows that, if the DUT does not see any voltage at all, then there is no damage possible.
Therefore, concerns about such damage are generally unfounded. However, if you are concerned, our PATs can all be easily switched from the IR test to the alternative Current Leakage (Run/Live/Power up) Test where the PAT applies the same 240V AC power that the DUT normally operates with. Be wary of testers which do not have this Current Leakage (Run/Live/Power up) Test option. Please ask us for more information if required. Ph (02) 6742 2110.
Is a Calibration certificate included? YES
Do I need a Multimeter? A Multimeter s continuity buzzer can be used to ascertain where the best earth contact point is on the exposed metal of a device to be tested with your PAT. Multimeters are supplied by PROTRONICS.
Do I have to Test my 415 Volt Three Phase Electrical Equipment? Yes. All electrical equipment used for construction work must be tested & tagged. Also, there are requirements for the testing of plug-in type 415 volt electrical equipment that is not used for construction work. On such equipment that is connected to the electrical supply by a flexible cord or connecting device, the Australian standard covers the safety tests to be carried out. (see AS/NZS 3760:2003 page 5). Examples of such 3 Phase equipment include: Portable power tools, extension leads, portable welders, electric concrete mixers, high pressure washers and concrete grinders etc. The above Standard does not apply to fixed or stationary equipment connected to wiring that forms part of the electrical installation. These fall within the scope of AS/NZS 3000.
Does this Tester Test 415 Volt Three Phase Equipment? No. See our TPL or 3PL appliance testers.
Can 3 Phase Appliances be tested using a 3 Phase Adapter? Yes, this PAT tester can be easily used with our range of TPL 3 Phase Adapters which have a leakage current test. (click here 3 PHASE LEAKAGE APPLIANCE TESTER ADAPTER ) However, they can test only SOME 3 phase appliances. Although our TPL will test 4 pin, leads, you will need some extra adapters to thoroughly test 5 pin, 3 phase leads. WARNING: Please do not test 3 phase appliances if you are not sure what you are doing. There are many traps for people who want to test ALL 3 Phase appliance types. Tell me your circumstances so that I can point you in the right direction. Ph (02) 6742 2110. You can test virtually all 3 phase and singe phase appliances with our excellent all-in-one 3PL Appliance Tester for $9,000.
Can I use my single phase PAT via a 3 Phase Adapter which is cheaper than the TPL?
Our range of 3 Phase Adapters (without leakage current test) are suitable for some 5 Pin appliances. Our 3PH32S is for 32A 5 Pin - $275. Our 3PH20S is for 10A & 20A 5 Pin - $225. IMPORTANT: These adapters (not to be confused with our TPL range) allow Insulation testing at 500V (not 1000V). Insulation testing is limited to only SOME 3 phase appliances without switching control circuits. When testing 3 phase appliances with switching control circuits, this adapter (when used with a single phase PAT) is ineffective unless the control circuit is separately enabled/energised during the test. Please do not test 3 phase appliances if you are not sure what you are doing. However, our range of TPL 3 Phase Adapters (see our other TPL listing) can test where control circuits exist in the 3 phase DUT. I can phone you with more detail.
Do you sell Test Tags? Self laminating tags are $35 per 100; $165 per 500; $348 per 1,200. PROTRONICS can have your name, business name, phone number, certificate number and tag number permanently custom printed on your hand written tags at no extra cost - minimum qty 1,200. Then you simply hand write the test date and appliance number on each test tag/label. I can email a brochure to your email address. Fail Tags are $20 per 50. (Prices include GST)
I am confused with all the choices. Which tester is best for me? Phone me with your specific circumstances so I can personally suggest the best match for your needs. Ph 02 6742 2110. After Hours is ok. We also provide 7 days a week phone support when you purchase from us.
