New Nd:YAG Rod for Diode Pumped DPSS Laser
Brand new Nd:YAG laser rod made by Scientific Materials Corp. This is designed to be side pumped by a 20-40W 808nm laser diode bar. It is 1.2mm diameter and 22.4mm overall length with brewster cut ends. The advantages of brewster angled end faces is that the surfaces do not require delicate anti-reflective coatings and the fundamental beam will be polarized. This greatly improves SHG conversion efficiency in polarization sensitive crystals like KTP resulting in more 532nm green power. A properly designed green laser using this crystal and a 20W pump diode will produce 2-3 watts of green. The last drawing shows the orientation of the rod and mirrors. The green line represents the light path. The end faces are cut at the exact angle so that when 1064nm light hits them at the brewster angle, the beam is refracted down the center of the rod.
