Total weight of ramp X The overall lenght of the ramp.
Divide by the number of degrees the ramp will swing.
Divide by the number of springs you intend to use.
This number is the high end of DPI you need.
You may be able to use one spring from the pair on each side of the trailer. The formula above does not account for friction or rust on the ramp shaft. Pictured is the style of ramp these were made for the photo shows what appears to be a single spring. Each sale is for two springs one right hand turn one left hand turn. Compare them to yours designed for large Tow Master style equipment trailers. Each spring is rated at about 25 DPI the material is .500 inch chrome silicon steel 4" wide outside of legs they are uncoated with an inside diameter of about 2 and 1/3 inches. As you can see from the photo the ends are indexed to a little before 90 degrees.
