For start applications we calculate the number needed based on 60 uF per HP (average is 40-100 uF per HP. For phase converter run application we calculate based on 15 uF per HP.
NEW VERY HEAVY-DUTY 189-227 uF AC (figure the rating as 200 uF) Aero motor start capacitors! These caps have two standard 1/4" males spade lugs on each terminal (total of 4). IF YOU HAVE DEMANDING APPLICATIONS, SUCH AS ROTARY PHASE CONVERTERS, THESE ARE THE ONLY WAY TO GO! We have tested low-end start capacitors, and they last 4-6 seconds under a continuous load. The Aeros last 10-14 seconds!! (Not that we would ever expect to use them in that manner in a start situation!) Start capacitors are rated for 1-2 seconds start cycles. Plan on 40-100 uF per HP for starting (We use 60). These are 165 volt, and they work fine for up to and including a 240v rotary phase converter or 240 V motor, which uses 120 volts per leg. 5,000 to 15,000 expected cycle life.
