Originally I had three sheets of this material that were 45"X 48". I took these to a fabricator with the instructions to cut these in half. It didn t quite happen that way. All the resulting six pieces have the 45" length but the widths vary. There is about a one pound variation in the weight of these sheets, the heaviest is the indicated price. The other pieces are a little narrower and lighter and will be proportionally discounted. The lightest piece is 16.8 lbs and will be discounted $15.
If you re looking for this, you probably know what it is. Otherwise, this is an alloy of titanium containing 6% aluminum, 6% vanadium and 2% tin (approximately), hence the 6-6-2. This material has excellent strength and corrosion resistance. This material was manufactured domestically by Timet. It s labeled "heat R8532 test".
I had planned to use this material for sculpture. However, I don t know of a good market nowadays. I color this metal using direct current voltage (see pictures), useable voltages range from about 35- 110 volts. I had also planned to shape this with an oxy-acetylene torch (cuts faster than steel).
A current idea I have is to make armor plating for the interior of car doors. Easy to shape with the torch, these pieces could be layered. The old Soviet titanium body armor was 7mm thick, about the same as three of these plates. Due to force dispersion, it could well be that two plates would give very good small arms protection.
