AMPEX SIM300 SIM 300 HOTLINK-TO-ECL Serial Converter
The SIM 300 is a serial interface module that converts a HOTLink serial input signal into parallel and serial outputs and, vice-versa, converts serial and parallel inputs to a HOTLink serial output. The module uses a Cypress chip set which consists of:
The SIM 300 operates in either parallel or serial mode. The SIM 300 converts a parallel input to a 320 Mbit/second HOTLink serial output. The parallel input consists of the following continuous signals:
The maximum data rate is 30 Mbytes/second. However, the actual data rate depends on the data recorder connected to the SIM 300. The parallel data is clocked into a first-in-first-out (FIFO) device which is continuously read. All data from the FIFO is immediately transferred to the CY7B923 Transmitter. If the FIFO is empty, it sends out null characters.
The SIM 300 converts a HOTLink 320 Mbit/second serial input to a parallel output. The CY7B933 Receiver converts the HOTLink input to parallel data and writes the data to a FIFO. If null characters are sent, then the RDY signal from the receiver is inactive and no data is transferred to the FIFO. The FIFO is continuously read and all data is transferred from the FIFO to the parallel output.
The PARALLEL CLK IN signal clocks the data from the FIFO and out of the SIM 300. In play mode, the PARALLEL INPUT DRDY signal throttles the data rate of the recorder.
The parallel output consists of the following continuous signals:
The SIM 300 converts the serial input to a 320 Mbits/second HOTLink serial output. The serial input consists of the following continuous signals:
The maximum data rate is 240 Mbits/second. However, the actual data rate depends on the data recorder connected to the SIM 300.
The serial data is converted to parallel and clocked into a FIFO. The FIFO is continuously read and all data from the FIFO is immediately transferred to the CY7B923 Transmitter. If the FIFO is empty, it sends out null characters.
The SIM 300 converts a 320 Mbit/second HOTLink serial input to a serial output. The serial output consists of the following continuous signals:
The CY7B933 Receiver converts the HOTLink input to parallel data and writes the data into a FIFO. If null characters are sent, then the RDY signal from the receiver is inactive and no data is transferred to the FIFO. The FIFO is continuously read and all data is transferred to the parallel-to-serial converter, and then to the serial output.
The SERIAL CLK IN signal is divided by 8 and clocks the data from the FIFO to the parallel output. The SERIAL CLK IN signal clocks the serial output signals.
In the play mode, the SERIAL DRDY IN signal throttles the data rate of the recorder.
