The Trane RuptureGuard containment system provides both pressure relief protection and refrigerant containment capability for low pressure water chillers. By combining a non-fragmenting rupture disk with a pressure relief valve, the majority of the refrigerant charge can be conserved in event of internal chiller over pressurization.
If the chiller's internal pressure exceeds 15 psi, the rupture disk bursts releasing refrigerant and pressure through the relief valve. Once the chiller's internal pressure falls below 13 psi, the relief valve closes, stopping the flow of refrigerant to the atmosphere. An optional automatic alarm switch is also available so that, should the disk burst, an alarm switch is activated allowing early detection and prompt inspection of the chiller. When installed, the RuptureGuard system can prevent the loss of a complete refrigerant charge a security feature not possible with a rupture disk alone. The RuptureGuard is designed for application on low pressure centrifugal chillers operating on CFC-11, CFC-113, and HCFC-123.
The RuptureGuard pressure relief system shown combines a non-fragmenting rupture disk in series with a spring loaded, re-seating relief valve. The rupture disk features an exclusive, solid metallic, reverse acting design. The relief valve has stainless steel components and is flow-rated by an ASME Certified Testing Laboratory. The RuptureGuard system is designed and built in accordance with ASME, ASHRAE, and API Standards and Guidelines.
After the chiller pressure has been released, the valve reseats to minimize refrigerant loss.
The RuptureGuard valve has the industry's highest rated flow capacity, allowing a smaller valve to be used in comparison to the competition.
A cast stainless steel valve assembly and body provide greater corrosion resistance than plated carbon steel bodies used in many other relief valves.
