Information from inside the instruction manual reads:
Standard lighting transformers do not operate low voltage lighting at optimum light output levels. The Power Supply Centers (PSC), developed and manufactured by Q-Tran, are the first transformer systems specifically designed for today's low voltage lighting and it unique installation requirements. The heart of the PSC system is a torodial Multi-Volt Transformer. A toroid is known for its small size, superior voltage regulation, quiet operation, high efficiency, cool operating temperature and its ability to take the stress of dimming.
* Note: Both underdriving or overdriving lamps can reduce lamp life.
Multi-Volt toroidal transformers offer superior lamp performance by allowing the Q-Tran Power Supply Centers to adapt to field conditions, ensuring that proper voltage is received at the lamp. Q-Tran transformers can operate at:
(11, 12, 13, 14 or 15 volts for a 12V Lamp)
(22, 24, 26, 28 or 30 volts for a 24V Lamp)
This multi-volt (MV) feature enables the system to compensate for voltage drop from dimmer loss, load size and wire resistance without increasing the wire size.
- Dimmer- At FULL bright a dimmer has 6V+ drop (120V in ??? 114V out) which is significantly lowers light output.
- Load size- The max load per run is 300W @ 12V or 600 W @ 24V. Higher wattage runs can cause more voltage drop.
- Wire length/ Wire gauge- Larger wire gauge will help in keeping light loss to minimum.
This item appears to be in Great barely used condition (only a few scratches on the back side) with the original box. Please note the instructions are copied from another unit we have and are not original.
